Rearrangements to Spiro Compounds

The reactions in this section proceed through stepwise tandem additions of singlet oxygen. The overoxidation of unsaturated hydrocarbons 15 (in Freon-11 oracetone-d6), 

and 131 led to the uptake of 2 equivalents of oxygen. Compounds 15, 98, 101, 103, and 107 led to the formation of bisper-oxides. Growing experimental data has been accumulated for singlet oxygen reactions, which give rise to spiro compounds [82, 83, 127-130], or yield bis- or polyperoxides, or polyepoxides [42, 58, 114—120, 131].
