Carried out in large excess of ethanol containing HCl (Bhide and Sudborough ). 

Carried out as in (A) (Bhide and Sudborough ). First and second stages are not differentiated. Kates were measured as equivalents of carboxyl consumed per unit of time. 

Saponification in 85 percent ethanol at 50°C (Evans, Gordon, and Watson ). 

In every case significant change in the velocity constant with chain length is confined to the region of low n. As the chain length increases, the velocity constant rapidly approaches an asymptotic value. The not uncommon impression that larger molecules in a homologous series
