Reactions with Grignard Compounds

An obvious reaction for formation of organic derivatives of disilanes is the reaction of Grignard compounds with halogenated disilanes. But the Grignard reagent usually cleaves the disilane and only monosilane derivatives are observed 24- 203-272 3 . 

Under suitable reaction conditions, the Grignard reaction is a useful means of forming disilane derivatives. Some examples following the general reaction

The formation of disilane derivatives is not possible only with metals organometallic compounds also react with halosilanes. West et al.509 found formation of disilanes in the reaction with Grignard compounds ... 

Reaction with Grignard compounds may also be interpreted as radical addition121. In this reaction 3 is partly reduced forming salt 128, partly it traps radical R yielding 129. 

This linker was synthesized starting from commercially available aldehyde-modified support 21 [28]. After reaction with Grignard compound 22, alcohol 23 was obtained, which was then transformed with CDI to the activated species ready for the attachment of the amine to yield 24. The desired secondary amine was liberated by treatment with fluoride ions (Scheme 9). The linker is versatile in that it can be used not only for the attachment of amines but also for the attachment of carboxylic acids and alcohols. 

As expected, the 1-halogen atom in 1,2-dihaloethers is most easily displaced reactions with Grignard compounds give much better results than with the corresponding lithium derivatives [9], e.g. ...
