Reactions with free electrons

Regioselective cleavage of dibenzofuran derivatives has been achieved with lithium metal, as exemplified by the preparation of 3-methyl-2-phenylphenol (172) (80S634). [Pg.327]

Benzo[ ]thiophene dianion (173) has been prepared by reduction of benzo[ J thiophene with sodium metal at - 78°C in [2H8]THF. The H and 13C NMR spectra of the purple solution obtained prove that it is the dianion and not a radical anion. This is the first example of a sulfur-containing (4n)Tr polycyclic dianion. The dianion undergoes oxidation to benzo[ ]thiophene with oxygen (85CC1033). [Pg.327]

Hi) Electrochemical reactions and reactions with free electrons Electrochemical oxidation of 3-methyl-l-phenylpyrazole gave the 3-carboxylic acid whereas electrochemical reduction (Section 4.04.2.1.6(i)) of l,5-diphenyl-3-styrylpyrazole produced the A -pyrazoline (B-76MI40402) with concomitant reduction of the exocyclic double bond (343). [Pg.247]

In MALDl (matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization), the ionization process occurs in two steps an initial primary ionization followed by a secondary reaction [28]. During primary ionization, the ions are formed after the sample has absorbed the energy from the laser beam, and then, upon continuing laser beam irradiation, the analyte undergoes secondary neutralization reactions with free electrons until they become singly charged. Meanwhile, neutral analyte molecules evaporate and are charged by secondary protonation reaction. In this way, they can be detected. [Pg.352]
