This book describes the chemistry, manufacture and use of the wide range of flexible polyurethane foams, from low-density open-cell upholstery foams to microcellular and reaction- injection-molded and reinforeed-reaction-injection-molded materials. The related effects of varying the raw-material chemistry and the production process and machinery on the properties and service performance of the final product are indicated. 

When the product size is important, there are two critical aspects maintenance of a homogenous melt and an adequate clamping pressure. To avoid these problems, reactive injection molding was developed that uses low-viscosity liquid flows to produce a polymerization reaction inside the machinery. Obviously, not all the polymeric materials are suitable for this technique the most commonly adopted materials are polyurethanes.
