Re-Chargeable Lithium Ion Batteries

These batteries rely on semiconduction in LiMgP04, LiFeP04 and related materials, most of which are relatively easily prepared [55], They have olivine type (Mg,Fe)2Si04 structures, which are built from [FeOg] octahedra and [PO4] tetrahedra which share comer O atoms, forming a structure with one-dimensional channels. In these channels, movement of Li+ can take place [35] (see beginning of Section 12.20). 

This group of materials have revolutionised the portable electronics market and their application in other areas of electronics is being actively studied [56].
