Below the black thread at the top, the fibers are acetate rayon (cellulose di- or triacetate, SEF (Monsanto s modacylic), Amel (cellulose triacetate), cotton, Creslan (polyacrylonitrile). Dacron 54 and 64 (polyester without and with a brightener), nylon 6.6 (polyamide), Orion 75 (polyacrylonitrile), silk (polyamide), polypropylene, viscose rayon (regenerated cellulose), and wool (polyamide). 

FIGURE 23.4 Filter paper (cellulose) will dissolve in a concentrated ammonia solution containing [Cu(NH3)4] ions. When the solution is extruded into aqueous sulfuric acid, a dark blue thread of rayon (regenerated cellulose) precipitates.

The preparation of rayon (regenerated cellulose) by the viscose process222 is being phased out, owing to the environmental pollution of the process. 

Cellulosic fiber n. A fiber composed of, or derived from, cellulose. Examples are cotton (cellulose), rayon (regenerated cellulose), acetate (cellulose acetate), and triacetate (cellulose triacetate). 

Cyclic Neopentyl Thiophosphoric Anhydride.
