In 1960, Kliiver aided his friend the Swiss-born artist Jean Tinguely in the construction of Homage to New York, the machine featured on IEEE Spectrum s cover, which self-immolated at a happening at the Museum of Modern Art. Collaborations soon followed with Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol. Kliiver also began to fashion himself as a cultural critic, arguing in the art-house review Hasty Papers that system builders had drifted from societal service and thus had to reconnect with the individual realities of users. ... [Pg.142]
