Radical Replacement of Halogen by Hydrogen

In another vein, it is frequently found that if more than one halogen is present on the same carbon, it is possible to adjust the conditions (e.g., by using a limited amount of tri-l-butyltin hydride [tri-n-butyltin hydride CH3CH2CH2CH2 3SnH]) so 

3- trimethylcyclopropanes when only 1 equivalent of tri-l-butyltin hydride (tri-n-butyltin hydride, [CH3CH2CH2CH2]3SnH) is used. 

It is argued that the reduction of alkyl iodides with HI is also a free radical process (Equation 7.12).
