Radial Profiles of Voidage and Solids Flux

A comprehensive account of radial voidage distribution requires a recognition of the lateral movement of solids in addition to their axial movement. One of the most important and yet least understood aspects of riser hydrodynamics is the lateral solids distribution mechanism [Kwauk, 1992]. Typical experimental findings for the radial voidage 

12(a) and (b) along with other data can be empirically correlated by [Zhang et al., 1991] 

This correlation has been verified for a wide range of operating conditions and Group A and Group B particles. Measurements of radial solids concentration profiles in a large-scale CFB combustor also confirm the validity of this correlation [Werther, 1993].
