Quantification of Micromolecular Parameters

The skeletal diversification of compounds can be quantified by a topological method. In its present form the method consists of counting for each compound the number of bonds that must be established and broken upon relating the compound to the general precursor of the compound s biosynthetic group. An example of the concommitant correlation of both statistical parameters (oxidation level and skeletal specialization) to a phylogenetic problem follows. [Pg.145]

Verification of the validity of this postulate is of great importance. Flavonoids are ubiquitous in plants and their structures and distribution have been studied extensively. They would indeed be excellent general markers of evolutionary polarity. [Pg.146]
