Pyridyl thiocyanates

The ligand 1,2-bis(pyridine-a-aldimino) ethane has four nitrogen atoms for coordination and forms 1 1 solid complexes with lanthanide [246] chlorides, nitrates, thiocyanates or salicylates. Infrared spectra show evidence for nitrate coordination and pyridyl coordination. Attempts to isolate bis complexes were futile although there is spectral evidence for their existence in solution. 

Lead(II) thiocyanate forms a linear polymeric compound with 2,2 6, 2"-terpyridine(terpy), [(terpy)Pb(SCN)2]oo, comprising seven-coordinate lead centers coordinating three pyridyl nitrogens and two A-bound and two 5 -bound bridging thiocyanates... 

Also, a one-dimensional double chain Hg + coordination polymer 3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole as the ligand and thiocyanate anions has a bright blue luminescence [21]. 

The kinetics have been reported for the formation of several edta-5-sulfosalicylate ternary complexes of lanthanide ions, and ligand substitution in trimalonatovanadium(III) with edta and nta . Reports have also appeared on the formation of ternary complexes involving Fe(III), pyridoxamine, and pyridoxal and the formation of bis- and tris(acetohy-droxamato)Fe(III) and activation volume evidence has been provided for a dissociative mechanism in the reaction of thiocyanate with diaqua[mcso-tetrakis(Af-methyl-4-pyridyl)porphinato] cobalt(III).
