Pyridyl Substituents in Preformed Blocks

The attachment of Au units to the P2VP units of similar block copolymers has been explored as a means of accessing nanolithographic templates [99,100]. Dissolution of polystyrene-fo-poly(2-vinylpyridine) in toluene leads to spherical micelles with a core of P2VP and a corona of PS. Treatment of such solutions with HAUCI4 leads to protonation to afford 2.50 with electrostatically bound [AuCl4] anions.
