The diffusion, location and interactions of guests in zeolite frameworks has been studied by in-situ Raman spectroscopy and Raman microscopy. For example, the location and orientation of crown ethers used as templates in the synthesis of faujasite polymorphs has been studied in the framework they helped to form [4.297]. Polarized Raman spectra of p-nitroaniline molecules adsorbed in the channels of AIPO4-5 molecular sieves revealed their physical state and orientation - molecules within the channels formed either a phase of head-to-tail chains similar to that in the solid crystalline substance, with a characteristic 0J3 band at 1282 cm , or a second phase, which is characterized by a similarly strong band around 1295 cm . This second phase consisted of weakly interacting molecules in a pseudo-quinonoid state similar to that of molten p-nitroaniline [4.298]. [Pg.262]

Further studies by the same authors have led to the formation of [2]rotaxanes, [3]rotaxanes and pseudo-polyrotaxanes [85-87]. In all these interlocked species, in spite of the presence of aromatic rings in the axle and wheel, tt-ti interactions do not seem to play a role in the templating process. This highlights once again the importance of C-H---0 hydrogen bonding in the assembly of interlocked species. [Pg.123]

Here, there is the blatant, parallel call from TMA-6. It can serve, as the 2,4,6-counterpart, as a similar template compound. And the first indicators are that, in keeping the 2,6-dimethoxy aspect intact, a completely analogous series could be made, again with modifications of the 4-position. These have been named the psu-series, or psi-series, as an abbreviation for the prefix, pseudo, and can be differen-... [Pg.213]

In a subsequent report, in 2005 [55], the same group described the preparation of imprinted polymer capable of oxidising alcohols and alkanes with 2,6-dichlor-opyridine /V-oxide (86) without mineral acid activation. The polymer was imprinted with a ruthenium porphyrin complex (87) using the diphenylmethana-mine (88) as pseudo-substrate template in order to achieve a shape of the cavity complementary to the substrates, diphenylmethane (89) and diphenylmethanol (84). The reaction, carried out with the imprinted polymer on the diphenylmethanol as substrate, showed a rate enhancement 2.5 higher than with the non-imprinted polymer. In the same conditions, but with diphenylmethane and... [Pg.330]
