AFC alkylation of indoles with alkylidene malonates is a useful synthetic methodology towards functionalized indoles. Pioneering work was carried out by Jorgensen and co-workers in 2001 by utilizing a C2-symmetric chiral bis(oxazoline)-Cu" as catalyst. Tang and co-workers also made an important contribution by introducing a novel pseudo-Cj-symmetric tris(oxazo-line)-Cu complex.
