Processing Parameters and the Rate of Resorption

Keywords Moisture Temperature Process-induced monomer Sterilization techniques Ethylene oxide Radiation Packaging [Pg.43]

There are number of factors that affect the rate of resorption of hydrolytically sensitive biomaterials [1, 2], These factors can be broadly classified into three groups under the headings material properties, fabrication process parameters, and in vivo environmental conditions (Table 5.1). [Pg.43]

Though all these factors are important for successful in vivo performance of biopolymers, the manufacturers who want to extrude fibers out of resorbable polymers would be more interested in factors such as spinning parameters, processing conditions, sterilization techniques, and packaging. The scope of the discussion in this chapter will thus be limited to these factors. [Pg.43]
