PROCESSES INVOLVING TRANSFER OF ATOMS AND ATOMIC GROUPS 

Reactions involving transfer of atoms and atomic groups represent a more complicated theoretical problem since they are often partially or entirely adiabatic and, in addition, a number of effects which are not very important in electron transfer reactions must be considered. These effects are  

interrelation of the motions of the atoms and mixing of the normal coordinates 

Furthermore, there are some effects related to the interaction of the reactants with the medium. We shall first consider the effects of the fluctuational preparation of the potential barrier in non-adiabatic reactions.
