Procedure 3.7 Kf Determination by Visible Spectroscopy

Safety warning Operations set off between the lines must be performed in a fume hood. 

Solution No. Volume [Ni(salpd)] Stock 1 (pi) Volume [Ni(salpd)]/Pyridine (py) Stock 2 (pi) [py] (mM) 

Caution pyridine (py) should be used in the hood. Avoid contact with skin. Py can cause sterility in males. Wear goggles and gloves. Clean up spills immediately. 

Using Stocks 1 and 2, prepare a series of 12 solutions of constant [Ni(salpd)] and varying [pyridine] concentration as outlined in Table 3.14. 

Obtain a visible spectrum (400 nm-900 nm) of Stock 1 and of each solution and record the absorbances at 600 nm. You should overlay all of your spectra to observe absorbance behavior.
