Procedure 9.4.a Epoxidation of Geraniol

Weigh 0.300 g of geraniol into a 10 ml round-bottom flask equipped with a stir bar. [Pg.225]

When the mixture becomes homogeneous, add dropwise over 1 min 0.45 ml of 5.0 M t-BuOOH in decane. [Pg.225]

Allow the reaction to proceed for 5 min and then take a TLC using 30% ethylacetate and 70% hexane. Use either a KMn04 dip or a phosphomolybdic acid dip to visualize. [Pg.225]

When the reaction is complete concentrate the reaction mixture under a stream of air. [Pg.225]

Purify the product by passing the product through a 7 cm plug of silica gel (70-230 mesh), using 5 ml of CH2C12 as the eluent. [Pg.225]
