Bubble column is a term used to describe a vertical column wherein gas is bubbled through either a moving or stagnant pool of liquid or liquid-solid slurry. The name is rather loosely used because the gas is not retained in the column in the form of bubbles at high gas velocity. The column need not be vertical either it can be horizontal or even coil shaped. This brief overview examines the present state of art of the vertically sparged bubble columns.
