Preparation of Potassium Bromate

Preparation of Potassium Bromate. Pour 30 ml of a 40% potassium hydroxide solution into a porcelain beaker and carefully heat it. Add 1 ml of bromine to the solution from a dropping funnel whose tube must reach the bottom of the beaker. Do this very slowly while continuously stirring the solution. Next saturate the solution with chlorine (for what purpose ). 

Heat a small amount of the potassium bromate in a test tube and detect the evolving oxygen. Write the equations of the reactions.
