Preparation of Polymetallocenes

Biferrocenyl, terferrocenyl, and polyferrocenyl are obtained by the reaction of a mixture of bromo and dibromoferrocene with copper [equation (9.152)]. 

Complexes containing other ligands in addition to cyclopentadienyl groups may also undergo substitution reactions involving the non-cp ligands. In this way, a variety of coordination compounds may be obtained. Most commonly, these displacement reactions are carried out in the case of cyclopentadienyl metal carbonyls
