Preparation of alkoxy aroxy silanes

Tetraalkoxy(aroxy)silanes, or ethers of orthosilicon acid H4Si04.have the most practical applications among all the silicone compounds without Si— C bonds in their molecule. [Pg.103]

The first ether of orthosilicon acid, tetraethoxysilane, was obtained by Ebelmen in 1844 by reacting silicon tetrachloride with ethyl alcohol. [Pg.103]

Tetraethoxysilane can be obtained not only from SiCl4, but also from SiBr4 and SiF4. Silicon tetraiodide Sil4 is not advisable, since in this case [Pg.103]

Sil4 can yield tetraethoxysilane only by this reaction  [Pg.103]

Further on, a range of other methods to prepare tetraalkoxy(aroxy)silanes have been suggested  [Pg.103]
