Predictors of Results

Early experiences with extraction were essentially by traction, and they evidenced the important role of lead implant time [1, 4]. It was a foregone conclusion that dwell time since implantation would decrease the possibility of lead removal. Reports [Pg.109]

Autopsy reports in PM patients [58] highlight the possibility of tricuspid valve leaflet perforation and abundant scarring due to ventricular leads. In 2005, Lin et al. [60] reported that in 41 PM or ICD patients undergoing tricuspid valve repair or replacement, a perforation of the tricuspid valve leaflet by the permanent PM (PPM) or ICD lead was found in seven patients. Lead entanglement in the tricuspid valve occurred in four patients, lead impingement of the tricuspid valve leaflets in 16, and lead adherence to the tricuspid valve in 14. Damage to the tricuspid valve by PPM or ICD [Pg.109]
