Prayer

The oldest form of combined heat and power is the smokejack, developed in Tibet to turn prayer wheels during religious ceremonies. Captured Tartar slaves introduced this device into Europe by the early fourteenth centuiy and Leonardo da Vinci sketched one around 1480. Commentators as diverse as Montaigne (1580), John Evelyn (1675), and Benjamin Franklin... 

The Father subsequently develops an illness, during which he prays that his Son may be led out of his body. In answer to his prayer, God sends down rain which fertilises the Father s body so that he becomes pregnant with the regenerated form of his Son (fig. 30).

To go sleepless for prayer and fasting is to discipline the body s desires, and so to free the soul to love God. 

Thin ranks of men. A block, brightly bloodstained. I see it, but my vision is hazed with prayers. 

When there is nothing left, there is always prayer. Each bead and image on my rosary stands for a prayer that helps to fill the void.
