Sevastianov [82] reports the preparation of an open-celled polyurethane foam chemically hydrophobed with a perfluorosiloxane as a suitable defoaming material for defoaming blood. This material was initially as effective as the same polyurethane sponge coated with a proprietary PDMS-hydrophobed silica antifoam for defoaming a solution of human albumin (supposedly the main foam stabilizing protein in blood).
