Potassium Primary and Secondary Amides

Potassium amides (NHR or NRR ) are generally produced via one of three synthetic routes (a) transmetallation of lithium amides with KOBu (b) reaction of KN(SiMe3)2 or (c) reaction of K, KH, KBu or KBz with an amine. 

Metallation of a secondary amine with either potassium or potassium hydride has been used for the formation of [ K(p-rranj-N(SiMe2Ph)(SiMe3)) 2ltx), [(K p-rrazw-N(Bu )-(SiMe3) )4(n-C6H6)2], (K p-//7// ,v-. (Ph)(C ll,. )[)4p-thl), and [K p-N(C5H4N-
