Potassium, cyclo-octatetraene salt

The behavior of the same azoxybenzene was studied under homogeneous conditions—when the dipotassium salt of cyclo-octatetraene dianion (C8H8K2) acts as a dissolved electrode. In this case the reduction of azoxybenzene stops at the first stage, that is, after the transfer of one electron only (Todres, Avagyan, Kursanov 1975). This produces the azoxybenzene anion radicals, which are not reduced further despite the presence of the electron donor in the solution. The ESR method does not reveal these anion radicals, although one-electron oxidation by phenoxyl radicals quantitatively generates azoxybenzene and produces the corresponding potassium phenolate molecules in a quantitative yield. Treatment with water leads to the 100% yield of azobenzene (Scheme 2-11). [Pg.105]

A single electron transfer from cyclo-octatetraene dipotassium (C8H8K2) to 2- and 4-nitro-stilbenes in THF leads to the formation of paramagnetic potassium salts of the anion radi-... [Pg.162]

The reaction of actinide tetrachlorides (thorium through plutonium) with the potassium salt of cyclo-octatetraene (COT) results in the formation of actocene complexes, rf — CgH8)2An, named by analogy with ferrocene. All these compounds have a sandwich structure in which two planar COT rings enclose a metal atom. [Pg.27]

The discovery in 1968 by Streitwieser and Muller-Westerhoff [52,53] that the dianion of cyclo-octatetraene, CgHl, can act as a ligand to the actinide elements signaled an important new development in organoactinide chemistry. The first compound of this class was uranocene, prepared by reaction of UCI4 with the potassium salt of cyclo-octatetraene (COT) ... [Pg.293]

The explosive di-potassium salt of cyclo-octatetraene, (K )2(C8H8) may similarly be used in the preparation of cyclo-octatetraene metal derivatives, e.g. [Pg.176]
