Porphyrin-containing Metallocycles

The rich chemistry of metal porphyrins, as well as their general robustness to chemical degradation, has made the incorporation of these macrocyclic systems into ordered molecular assemblies especially attractive. Further, the photochemical properties of porphyrins impart a functionality to the resulting assemblies that may, for example, be used to aid their characterisation. 

Following earlier work on the self-assembly of a porphyrin cage (involving molecular recognition through hydrogen-bond formation) as well as the use of pyridyl-derivatised porphyrins as subunits for the formation of polymeric net-
