Utility Polymer Precursor Diols for Drug Release Delivery Agents 

Triethyleneglycol divinylether (100 mmol) and 1,6-hexanediol (200 mmol) were dissolved in 100 ml THF and a catalytic amount (approximately 10 mg) of p-toluenesulfonic acid. The mixture refluxed 30 minutes, was concentrated, and the product isolated as a colorless oil. 

The oligomeric diols of the current invention were subsequently used to prepare polyester derivatives by reacting with 3,9-di(ethylidene)-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro[5.5]undecane (I). Its preparation is described (1).
