Polyarylether structures

NMR Characterization. The structures of the polyarylethers A-K (Table I) were confirmed through their NMR spectra. As an example of the NMR data, observe the spectrum in Figure 1 for sample K, the condensation product of disodium salt of diphenolic acid and 2,6-di-chlorobezonitrile which was subsequently methylated as discussed above. 

Table I illustrates the structures of the modified polyarylethers, their glass-transition temperatures, and their reduced specific viscosities (RV) measured in chloroform at 25°C at a concentration of 0.2 g/100 mL.

The PCFC total heat release data correlate well with the TG analysis char yields. Polyarylether 10 has a lower heat release capacity than polyarylether 8, but also has a lower char yield. The thermal stability of these polymers can be attributed to the BPC structure in addition, the olefin functionality in polyarylethers 7 and 10 might also give rise to its thermal resistance. Almost half the polymer weight in 7, 8, and 10 is retained this indicates some flame resistance because we would have otherwise expected complete incineration (Fig. 15). 

Combined with CuBr/PMDETA catalyst, dendritic polyarylether 2-bromoisobutyrates (G t-Br, =l-3) can be used as effective macroinitiators for ATRP of N-hexylmaleimide and styrene in [BMIMJPFe at lower temperature than in anisole. The afforded polymers had well-defined molecular weights and low polydispersities (1.18 < PDI < 1.36) (46). The two monomers showed a stronger tendency to form alternating structures in RTILs as compared to polymerizations conducted in anisole.
