Poly -liquid-crystalline tensile properties

Poly(/)-phenylenctcrcphthalamiclc) forms a liquid crystalline solution and can be spun into a fiber with a very high orientation these fibers have excellent tensile and thermal properties. These high-modulus fibers are suitable as reinforcing materials in technical applications. [Pg.137]

The liquid crystalline-forming polymer, poly(l,4-benzamide), has a modulus and tensile strength still higher than the ultradrawn polyethylene. The properties of poly(l,4-benzamide) are compared with the well-known fibers nylon and rayon. The latter are much softer but are more extensible. [Pg.569]
