Polarized conduction electron

The polarization of the conduction band due to the Hamiltonian of eq. (19) oscillates spatially with a long-range damping factor. The polarized conduction electrons can now scatter magnetically with another R atom. The resultant exchange interaction is known as the RKKY interaction and accounts for most of the magnetic properties of RI compounds. [Pg.136]

Much of the Pt Mossbauer work performed so far has been devoted to studies of platinum metal and alloys in regard to nuclear properties (magnetic moments and lifetimes) of the excited Mossbauer states of Pt, lattice dynamics, electron density, and internal magnetic field at the nuclei of Pt atoms placed in various magnetic hosts. The observed changes in the latter two quantities, li/ (o)P and within a series of platinum alloys are particularly informative about the conduction electron delocalization and polarization. [Pg.344]

Another method is the conduction-electron polarization effect (CEP) discussed by Shirley and Westenbarger (35). deWaard and Drentje (37) have utilized this effect by driving atoms into a thin iron foil with... [Pg.142]

In the second case (limit of fast kinetics at the gas-solid interface), the film becomes entirely bulk transport limited, corresponding to the limit of Hebb— Wagner polarization. Since electronic conduction is fast, this situation yields a Warburg impedance for finite length diffusion ... [Pg.570]

In the case of PuP, Psat is unkown, but from neutron diffraction the easy axis is (100) thus Psat = 1.27 Ppowder 0-6 Pb and not 0.42 pg. This correction is important because the difference between Poid = 0.77 ps obtained by neutron diffraction and Ppowder = 0.42 Pb has been attributed to a huge conduction electron polarization of - 0.35 Pb Although important, this term should in reality reach only half this value (- 0.17 pb). [Pg.145]
