Pleated sheets cytochrome

Plate 15 A selection of common types of computer graphics models, all showing the same three strands of pleated-sheet structure from cytochrome b5 (PDB 3b5c). (a) Wireframe (b) ball and stick (c) space filling (d) ribbon backbone with ball-and-stick side chains. (For discussion, see Chapter 11.) Image SPV/POV-Ray. (Continues)... [Pg.284]

The X-ray crystallographic studies on calf liver cytochrome bs (with 93 amino acid residues) at 2.8 and 2.0 A resolution were carried out by Mathews et al. 144-146). Their results show that the cytochrome molecule contains six short helical regions and five short segments of an extended p chain which form a twisted pleated sheet structure. Distribution of these secondary structures, which involve about 75% of the 86 residues in the core part of the molecule, is indicated in Fig. 5. [Pg.573]
