Piglets Post weaning

Tsiloyiannis, V.K., Kyriakis, S.C., Vlemmas, )., and Sarris, K. 2001b. The effect of organic acids on the control of post-weaning oedema disease of piglets. Research in Veterinary Sciences 70 281-285. [Pg.94]

The development of multiple bacterial resistances to a wide range of commonly used antibiotics, and a recent increase in the prevalence of post-weaning syndromes will necessitate the use of alternative measures, such as piglet vaccination or the use of functional additives like acidifiers, for their control. [Pg.14]

Dietary acidifiers have been accepted as potential alternatives to antibiotics in order to improve performance and health status of livestock. In post weaning piglets particularly, this is relevant for the applieation of acidifiers based on inorganic acids,... [Pg.36]

Hopwood, D.E., D.W. Pethick, J.R. Pluske and D.J. Hampson, 2004. Addition of pearl barley to a rice-based diet for newly weaned piglets increases the viscosity of the intestinal contents, reduces starch digestibility and exacerbates post-weaning colibacillosis. Br. J. Nutr. 92, 419-427. [Pg.592]

An excessive supply of leucine aggravates the effect of a valine deficiency in post-weaned piglets... [Pg.609]

The actual NRC (1998) recommendation of valine (Val) for pigs, expressed on a standardized ileal digestible (SID) basis and relative to Lys, is 68%. The three branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) Val, isoleucine (lie) and leucine (Leu) partially share a common route of cataboUsm and an excessive supply of Leu and Val (for example due to the use of blood cells as a protein source) appears to increase the He requirement in piglets (Dean et ai, 2005). Relatively little information is available about the Val requirement in pigs and the possible interaction with other BCAA. The objective of this study was therefore to study how an excessive dietary Leu supply affects the response to Val in post-weaned piglets. [Pg.609]

Barea, R., L. Brossard, N. Le Floc h, Y. Primot, D. Melchio and J. van Milgen, 2009. The standardized ileal digestible valine to lysine requirement ratio is at least 70% in post-weaned piglets. J. Anim. Sci. 87, 935-947. [Pg.632]
