Physicochemical Properties of Silicone Oil

PDMS fluid viscosity, (cSt) Molecular weight (number average) M Me3SiO(Me SiO) SiMe3 n [Pg.382]

In the presence of oxygen, thermal degradation of silicones around 200°C involves the oxidative rupture of Si-C bond [14]. At higher temperatures of 350-400°C thermal rearrangement occurs with the rupture of siloxane backbone to form cyclic silicones of low molecular weight [14]. Because of the partial ionic character of the siloxane backbone silicones are prone to electrophilic or nucleophilic attack, making them susceptible to hydrolysis by water, particularly at extreme pH conditions [9]. [Pg.383]
