In addition to thermodynamic considerations of miscibility and equilibrium solubility, the physical properties (particle size and shape) of the powder or granular HME polymers, the molecular weight and crystallinity, as well as the chemical nature of the monomers of the backbone and side branches, are expected to affect the extrusion performance of the polymers and the occurrence of possible interactions with the drug and plasticizer.
