Phthalocyanine dyes chromogens

Phthalocyanines. Phthalocyanine is the only novel chromogen of commercial importance discovered siace the nineteenth century. It was discovered accidendy ia 1928, when duriag the routine manufacture of phthalimide from phthaUc anhydride and ammonia it was found that the product contained a blue contaminant. Chemists of Scottish Dyes Ltd, now part of Zeneca, carried out an iadependent synthesis of the blue material by passiag ammonia gas iato molten phthaUc anhydride containing iron filings. The importance of the colorant was realized (it was iatensely colored and very stable), and a patent appHcation was filed ia the same year. [Pg.283]

Theoretically, the dye or chromogen can be any colored species. Of course, requirements for fastness, solubiUty, tinctorial value, ecology, and economy must be met. Most commonly used chromophores parallel those of other dye classes. Azo dyes (qv) represent the largest number with anthraquiaone and phthalocyanine making up most of the difference. Metallized azo and formazan dyes are important and have gained ia importance as a chromophore for blue dyes duriag receat years (6) (see Dyes and dye intermediates). [Pg.410]

Green dyes are obtained by bridging an anthraquinone blue chromogen with a yeUow chromogen, as in the following reactive green (28) [72090-52-9] (14) or from phthalocyanine (7). [Pg.413]

Phthalocyanines. Apart from the recent discoveries of benzodit ura none dyes and dikelopyrrolopyrrole pigments, phthalocyanine is the only novel chromogen of commercial importance discovered since the nineteenth century. [Pg.514]

Reactive dyes are colored compounds that contain groups capable of forming covalent bonds between dye and substrate. Approximately 80-90% of reactive dyes are azo dyes. The other chromogenic classes are anthraquinones, dioxazines, phthalocyanines, and some 1 1 copper azo complexes. Reactive 1 2 complex leather dyes were also commercially manufactured for a short time. Constitution and producer have not been disclosed. [Pg.442]
