Despite this shortcoming, the arylsulfonamide group may stiU hold promise as a photoremovable protecting group for amines lacking a carboxylate moiety. Further studies would need to be carried out to fully establish its capabilities in this regard. 

Tosyl groups can be photoremoved in the presence of carboxylic esters and benzylethers by use of tertiary amines as electron donors.
