In addition to imaging, the fluorescence technique can be used to sensitize intrinsic molecules of the tumor microenvi-ronment to generate radicals intended to kill cancers. This technique is called photodynamic therapy and thus far, it has proven remarkably effective for the treatment of surface tumors in clinical studies.
