As will be detailed in the following, both disciplines were correct. Pharmacomechanical coupling represents increases in both [Ca +Jj and the [Ca +Jj sensitivity of phosphorylation beyond that expected given the level of depolarization. 

Modulation of myosin phosphorylation independent of changes in [Ca2+]j is another form of pharmacomechanical coupling.
