Phorbol ester promotors

Evidence has accumulated in support of the hypothesis (78,79) that DDT inhibits metabolic cooperation (84,107) thereby causing a loss of control on cell proliferation. DDT was shown to inhibit cell-to-cell communication between primary cultures of hepatocytes and an established adult rat liver epithelial cell, 6-thioguanlne resistant strain (84). Recently, DDT was compared with a phorbol ester and quercetin in the same system and the phrobol ester and DDT were found to be synergistic Indicating that they may act by different pathways (107). The well established promotor action of DDT appears to be consistent with its capacity to inhibit cell-to-cell communication. [Pg.129]
