2- Phenylpyridines, fluorination

One example is the octanuclear iridium(III) compound 11.14 which uses the C,N-carbanion ligands 11.12 and 11.13.8 The periphery of the compound comprises fluorinated 2-phenylpyridine (11.12b) iridium units, linked via bridging ligand 11.13 to similar non-fluorinated iridium(III)... 

Considering that organofluorine compotmds feature prominently in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries due to their important biological activities [2, 48], there were significant efforts to extend the above methods to making fluoroaromatic compormds. Sanford et al. reported a Pd-catalyzed C-H activa-tion/ort/ro-fluorination of several 2-phenylpyridine derivatives with various N-F donors of an electrophilic fluorine (Scheme 18) [49].
