It gets metabolized to phenylethyl malonamide (PEMA) and phenobarbital (an active long-aeting barbiturate). The actual formation to phenobarbital varies between 15-25%. The plasma half-life of PEMA ranges between 24-48 hours, whereas that of phenobarbital is 48-120 hours. However, the two aforesaid metabolites have a tendency to exert a cumulative storage in the body particularly during chronic medication. Primidone is quite often described as a 2-deoxybarbiturate. [Pg.221]
