Phenyl -, tetraphenylarsonium

Suitable electrolytes for the aqueous phase (w) comprise, for example, LiCl, HCl, MgCl2, MgS04, while suitable electrolytes for the organic phase (o) comprise salts of, for example, tetrabutylammonium, tetraphenylarsonium, or bis(triphenyl-phosphoranylidene)ammonium cations with tetraphenylborate, tertrakis(4-chloro-phenyl)borate, or tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate anion. 

Tetraphenylarsonium Phenyl(diiodo)tellurate(H) 0.5 g (1.25 mmol) of diphenyl ditclhirium are dissolved in 30 ml of warm acetonitrile, and a solution of 0.32 g (1.25 mmol) of iodine in 15 ml of acetonitrile followed by a solution of 1.28 g tetraphenylarsonium iodide in 30 ml of acetonitrile are added with vigorous stirring. The resultant solution is filtered, the filtrate is concentrated to a volume of 20 ml under vacuum, and the clear red concentrate is placed in a refrigerator overnight to allow the product to crystallize yield 1.86 g (88%) m.p. 174-176°.

Similarly prepared were tetraphenylarsonium phenyl ( dibromo ) tellur ate (II triphenylmethylphosphonium 4-methoxyphenyl ( dibromo ) tellur ate (II) triphenylmethylphosphonium 4-methoxyphenyl ( diiodo ) tellur ate (II) triphenylmethylphosphonium 4-ethoxyphenyl( diiodo ) tellur ate (II) triphenylmethylphosphonium 2-naphthyl ( diiodo )tellurate( II) ... 

Wittig and Clauss499 obtained pentaphenylarsenic by the action of phenyl lithium on triphenylarsine dichloride or tetraphenylarsonium bromide. The analogous reaction of methyllithium with trimethylarsine dibromide or tetra-methylarsonium iodide gave no isolable amount of pentamethylarsine, although the formation of small amounts of this product could be demonstrated among the others.500... 

Alternatively, one could assume (Marcus, 1985) that the ratio of the limiting partial molar volume of cation and anion in a reference electrolyte, tetraphenylarsonium tetra-phenyl- borate (Ph4AsBPh4), equals the ratio of the corresponding van der Waals volumes ...
