S)-Pinanediol boronic esters 2 with (dichloromethyl)lithium produce (aS)-a-chloro boronic esters 3. The first experiments provided diastereomerie ratios in the range 75 25 to 98 2. The best results (>94 6) were obtained with phenyl, ethenyl, or 1-phenylethyl attached to the boron atom39 40. The diastereomerie ratios were estimated from the rotations of esters of derived secondary alcohols. It was subsequently found that zinc chloride catalysis of the rearrangement of the intermediate borate complexes 2 improved the yields, usually to 85-95%, with diastereo-meric ratios often >99 1 when R1 = alkyl, as shown by NMR measurements15,43.

AuBer der Ethenyl-Gruppe selbst konnen auch verschiedene substituierte Ethenyl-Gruppen in die 1-Position von Imidazolen eingefuhrt werden. So fuhrt die Umsetzung von Imidazol mit Phenyl-ethin unter Katalyse mit Natrium in Phosphorsaure-tris-[dimethylamid] bei 130° in 70% Ausbeute zu l-(2-Phenyl-ethenyl)-imidazol1S4. Mit Dichlor-ethin bzw. Butindisaure-di-ethylester werden die entsprechenden 1 -(1,2-Dichlor-ethenyl)-785 bzw. l-(l,2-Diethoxy-carbonyl-ethenyl)-imidazole786 erhalten. 

Dabei entstchcn aus 1-substituierten Imidazolen wie z.B. l-Benzyl-2-methyl- oder 1,2-Dime-thyl-imidazol unter Verbrauch von zwei Aquivalenten Benzoesaure-chlorid die 1-substituierten 2-(2-Benzoyloxy-2-phenyl-ethenyl)-imidazole wie z.B. 2-(2-Benzoyloxy-2-phenyl-etheny1)-l-benzyl- (97%) oder 2-(2-Benzoyloxy-2-phenyl-ethenyl)-l-methyl-imidazol (93%), die zu 1-Ben-zyl-2-(2-oxo-2-phenyl-ethyl)- bzw. l-Methyl-2-(2-oxo-2-phenyl-ethyl)-imidazol hydrolysiert werden konnen 766 768. 

Die Umsetzung von Methyl-nitro-imidazolen mit Benzaldehyden und Basen (z, B. Piperidin, Alkalimetall-alkanolaten) fuhrt zu (2-Phenyl-ethenyl)-nitro-imidazolen1078,1079, ii44- ii46 >iese Reaktion ist sowohl mit 1-substituierten, als auch mit 1-unsubstituierten Me-thyl-nitro-imidazolen moglich.
