Phenanthroline groups

A porphyrin compound with a 2,9-dimethyl- 1,10-phenanthroline functionality fused at the beta-pyrrole positions is a phthalocyanine analog, and formed a complex with zinc in the cavity and a further zinc binding to the phenanthroline group. The absorption and emission spectra of the compound with and without the external zinc demonstrated the strong effects of the second metal binding on the porphyrin 7r-system.840... 

The final two compounds in Table 6 are of particular interest as they are both heterometallic and contain two distinct organic groups. The 2,2 -bipyridine and phenanthroline groups in [Ag(bipy)(U02)(bdc)i 5] and [Ag2(phen)2U02(betc)] (respectively) however are coordinated in a bidentate fashion to the Ag centers only and do not contribute to the overall coimectivity of the CP.

Parameters for the 1,10-phenanthroline complexes, Fe(phen)2X2, with X == Cl", Br", I , NCS , NCSe", Ns" are listed in Table 6.5. The local symmetry is lower than in the Fe(py)4X2 complexes because of the bidentate phenanthroline group, and this results in a larger Fe + quadrupole splitting and smaller magnetic moment. Of particular interest are Fe(phen)2(NCS)2...
