In this study, the preliminary findings showed that the HPLC/fluorescence data were in agreement for all 12 carbamates with HPLC/ESI-MS/MS for most of the nine fruits and vegetables at the 1.0 ng g fortification level. The recoveries were generally within 70-120% however, at the 1.0 ng g level in each commodity, HPLC/ESI-MS (single-stage MS) had difficulty with interferences for three out of the 12 carbamate pesticides (aldicarb sulfoxide, aldicarb sulfone, and 3-hydroxycarbofuran), which made quantification impossible for these three compounds.

A single drop of the pesticide aldicarb, absorbed through the skin can kill an adult. Aldicarb is commonly used in cotton production and in 2003 almost I million kilos was applied to cotton grown in the USA. Aldicarb is also applied to cotton in 25 other countries worldwide.

As the study moves into the second phase when field data will be collected for analysis after application of the pesticide aldicarb, background data will continue to be collected to better define and characterize the local ground-water system and its relation to the unsaturated zone.

The purpose of this paper is to present an assessment exercise of a leaching pesticide using the PRZM model. The assessment begins with a calibration of PRZM for the pesticide aldicarb applied to tobacco in North Carolina and potatoes in Wisconsin. Following these calibrations, long term simulations are performed using these same calibration scenarios. Examination of key PRZM output indicates the "potential" for aldicarb to contaminate ground water in the scenarios modeled.

Aldicarb nitrile (12), a residual degradation product of the carbamate pesticide Aldicarb, can be analysed by GC using a short column and MS detection, with a detection limit of 0.15 ng. The short column is required to avoid thermal degradation of Aldicarb to 12 that could distort the analysis .

Modin et al. (2008d) investigated the removal of four pesticides (aldicarb, alachlor, atrazine and malathion) in a MBfR fed with a mixture of oxygen and methane. All pesticides except atrazine could be removed however, it was not determined whether the pesticides were mineralized or partially degraded. 

Water contaminated with mixtures of the pesticides aldicarb = 1.13) or atrazine = 2.61) and nitrate = -4.39) was administered to mice at concentrations simulating contaminated groundwater at levels found environmentally in midwestem United States farming communities. Though the pesticides alone are immunotoxic, nitrate is not. The mixtures of single pesticides with nitrate, however, reduced the ability to make antibodies against a foreign protein in laboratory animals [35]. No mechanistic explanation for this phenomenon was offered by the authors.
