Pesticidal blankets

The technology can be used in any type of soil, including low-permeability clays. According to the vendor, this technology can be used to treat polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxins, chlorinated solvents, pesticides, and herbicides. The thermal blanket technology has been demonstrated to remediate PCB-contaminated soil to a level of 2 ppm. [Pg.1042]

Table 13.3 provides some examples of agricultural colloids. Beyond foods and the processing of agricultural products into foods, as covered in the previous sections of this chapter, there is a range of crop-protection products. These include pesticides and foam blankets. There are several books and reviews related to agricultural colloids [861-864],... [Pg.321]

Liquid pesticide spills can be further contained by covering the entire spill with absorbent materials, such as spill pads, blankets or pillows, absorbent clay, vermiculite, sawdust, com cobs, expanded silica, or other acceptable material. [Pg.276]

The modern regime of pesticide use, which has arisen over the past fifty years, must be seen as an integral feature of this genetic vulnerability, not as an unrelated scientific breakthrough. It is precisely because hybrids are so uniform and hence disease prone that quasiheroic measures have to be taken to control the environment in which they are grown. Such hybrids are analogous to a human patient with a compromised immune system who must be kept in a sterile field lest an opportunistic infection take hold. The sterile field, in this case, has been established by the blanket use of pesticides. ... [Pg.269]

An R D substance that is the subject of a SNUR must be disposed of consistent with the SNUR if the SNUR puts restrictions on disposal the R D processor is not exempt from those restrictions. Similarly, any further use of the R D substance must be consistent with the SNUR restrictions. For example, if the SNUR prohibits incorporating the R D substance into an article unless the processor files a SNUN, then the processor cannot incorporate the substance into an article without violating the R D exemption rules. As a result there is no blanket authorization to distribute surplus R D material if it is an impurity or part of an article. The R D regulations must be followed even if the purpose of the R D is to evaluate the substance for its pesticidal properties. [Pg.434]
