Perchloric acid and perchlorate solutions

In the radiolysis of concentrated perchloric acid the products CIO3% CIO2, CP, O2 and H2 were identified and measured as a function of the concentration [32-34]. G-value of the C10 decomposition was determined to be 5.1 0.3 

In the pulse radiolysis study an absorption band composed of a 350 nm peak corresponding to the C103 radical (next section) and a 460 nm one was clearly detected. The behavior of the latter absorption is dependent on the concentration and increased in highly concentrated condition. Surface Decomposition (Reduction) of Adsorbed Perchlorate Species. -For a long time perchloric acid and perchlorate solutions were considered as inert and stable supporting electrolytes applicable in various electrochemical studies without problems. Nowadays more and more experimental evidence is furnished by various authors demonstrating that CIO4 ions in acidic aqueous media are subject to reductive attacks at a great variety of electrodes.
